Live Golden Review:
Based on 2009 best selling book Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, film takes place in 19th century England, where Elizabeth Bennet and her 4 younger sisters are looking for romance, and end up falling in love with young bachelors from different social circles. This seems like your normal love story however, the added twist is that it’s all happening during a zombie apocalypse.
I was definitely intrigued by the trailer which shows 5 young women putting on their lace, corsets, and daggers, then do a slo-motion walk armed and ready to kick some zombie butt. I was not sure what to expect, since I had not read the book but being a fan of 2005 Pride & Prejudice movie, I gave it a shot.
The feminist theme was definitely alive in this film, these sisters are not your regular housewives, they were trained for battle and survival, and not even a rich man would change that. This is not your typical damsel in distress story, these girls killed whatever zombie came their way, and had no sense of fear.
Although the film had lots of cleavage, silly moments, and hot girls kicking zombie ass it did lack one main thing, ZOMBIES. Knowing that these young ladies trained their entire life for battle I was ready for an intense gory zombie war, but it never happened. Therefore if you are watching this movie just for the zombies, this is not the movie for you. Overall movie was ok, mainly because I like “chick flicks” and enjoyed the love story.
