One of the many amazing perks of living in San Diego is the yearly county fair at Del Mar Fairgrounds. The fair takes place for an entire month and it’s never a disappointing experience. My boyfriend and I have made it somewhat of a tradition to go at least twice each year. You can find everything here from rides, animals, games, concerts, shopping, talent shows, and last but not least unique food options. One of the fun parts of the fair is to walk around and look at all of the bacon covered, deep fried, food concoctions there is to choose from. Although they are very tempting I am never daring enough to give them a try. Some of the options that stood out to me this year were the deep fried slim fast bars (WHAT!?), and deep fried Starbucks. We stuck to the classics corn dog, pizza, hot dog and my favorite twisted taters. My favorite part of the fair is riding the huge Ferris wheel, once you get to the top you are able to experience beautiful 360 views of the entire fair and the ocean. If you are in town check out the fair in the month of June, tickets can be purchased at the door and or you can find discounted tickets online or certain grocery stores.
Tips before you go: There is very little shade when walking around the fair, don’t forget your glasses, caps, and sunscreen. Bring cash many booths and games only accept cash. Check out the fair calendar on their website and plan your day around available concerts/shows. Save money by bringing a picnic or visit on discount days. Lastly remember all Mondays are closed.
